This collection consists of two unrelated items. The first is Mr. McCrary's written account, 1939, regarding of the early days of Clemson College. He recalls the Fort Hill mansion and surrounding area in the days before the college was first established. He describes witnessing the first dormitory being built by convict labor, Clemson's opening day ceremonies, and his own experiences as a cadet upon entering the school. The papers consist of certificates, a diploma, photographs and copies of poems, prayers and speeches. The photocopies of poems and some of the photographs were used in the preparation of The Verse of Floride Clemson, edited by Holman and published by the University of South Carolina Press in 1965.
