The South Carolina Hall of Science and Technology records contain material documenting the induction of several leading South Carolina scientists and technologists. Since the Hall also seeks to promote the teaching of science, there are records relating to the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education as well as reports from the National Science Teachers Association Convention in 1983. There is some material documenting the development of science education in South Carolina. The records also include biographical information on inductees, including Dr. Ernest Everett Just, a black marine biologist, and Thomas Green Clemson, the founder of Clemson University who was awarded the Le Conte Medallion in 1983.
The South Carolina Hall of Science and Technology was established in 1978 as a program of the South Carolina Science Council. The purpose of the Hall is to provide the people of South Carolina with an awareness and understanding of science and technology through the public recognition and acclaim of significant scientific and technological accomplishments of the citizens and the progeny of the state. The Hall also seeks to enhance instruction in science and strengthen the role of the science teacher in South Carolina's schools.
The Hall features an induction ceremony that bestows either of two awards that have been named in honor of the three founding inductees. The Le Conte Medallion, in honor of John and Joseph Le Conte goes to an inductee from the physical sciences. The Just Medallion, in honor of Ernest Everett Just, is awarded to an inductee from the biological sciences. An inductee must be identified with South Carolina by birth, professional affiliation, or residence.

The South Carolina Hall of Science and Technology is a non-profit organization interested in the promotion of science and technology in South Carolina. It inducts prominent scientists into its Hall to serve as role models.
These records were donated by George Fulton in 1986 and 1987.
In 1993 at the request of the donor, the bulk of the records were transferred to Midlands Technical College. There remains one folder of oversize posters, documenting a number of prominent black scientists and the induction of Thomas Green Clemson into the Hall.
