The Duffy Papers contain correspondence, reports, campaign literature, and other material related to the activities of the Republican Party in South Carolina during the 1960s and early 1970s. Of particular interest is Duffy's unpublished history of the Republican Party in South Carolina during the 1960s, In GOP We Trust.

These papers are almost entirely related to South Carolina politics during the 1960s and early 1970s. They document James Duffy's role in the Republican Party and the operations of that Party at the local level during a period of vigorous growth in South Carolina.
The papers are arranged in a roughly chronological subject file which reflects Duffy's original organization of material into binders by subject and date. The collection consists of three parts: the subject file, the manuscript of In GOP We Trust, and a publication file. The manuscript is in order by page number and the publications are arranged alphabetically by title.
The papers were donated to Clemson University Libraries in December 1983 by James Duffy, accession 83-68.
This register was prepared by Michael Kohl in 1985.
