Collection consists of a scrapbook containing 177 black and white photographs, and one partial black and white photograph, glued into the scrapbook and captioned. Photographs are circa 1963-1965 and depict student life in Clemson’s first women’s dormitory (originally known as East Campus Dormitory No. 1, and renamed Mauldin Hall in 1966). Photographic subjects include candid portraits of women students, dormitory life, and student events. Also included in the collection are five film negatives and two clippings from The Tiger student newspaper concerning the Central Dance Association.
Patricia Marian Vallentine was born April 24, 1945. She was a member of Clemson’s first class of 158 freshmen coeducational students who enrolled in the Fall semester of 1963. While coed students had matriculated at Clemson before 1963, the opening of Clemson’s first women’s dormitory enabled more women to attend as they no longer were required to find off-campus housing and transportation to campus. A student in the Animal Science Department, Vallentine was a member of the Block and Bridle club from 1964 to 1968, and was awarded the club’s scholarship as a junior in 1967. Vallentine also belonged to Omicron Zeta Tau from 1964 to 1966. She graduted from Clemson in 1968.
