Daniel Ravenel was the father of Henry Edmund Ravenel (1824-1863). Henry Edmund Ravenel owned Seneca Plantation near Fort Hill and Pendleton, S.C. His father, came to Seneca from Charleston at some time during the Civil War. At the end of the war Captain Samuel Prioleau Ravenel came also. While Captain Ravenel was at Seneca he met Mrs. Margaretta Fleming Parker, sister of Mrs. Robert Adger. Mrs. Parker's first husband had been killed at the Battle of Secessionville. The couple were married in December 1865. The father "was one of 8 men trying to get the railroad through to the West" and had a connection with the building of Stumphouse Mountain Tunnel.
