History:
1920 (July) Department of Student Affairs established and Dr. D.H. [David Hill] Henry made Director. 1927 (July) Department of Student Affairs was abolished. 1955-1956 Office of Student Affairs established to administer and supervise the total student personnel program. Walter T. Cox appointed the first Dean of Student Affairs. 1965 Title of position of Dean of Student Affairs changed to the Vice President for Student Affairs. 1967 Title of position of Vice President for Student Affairs changed to Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students. 1985 Manning N. Lomax became Acting Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students. 1986 Manning N. Lomax appointed by Max Lennon to be the second Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students. 1988 Title of position of Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students changed to Vice President for Student Affairs. 1991 Enrollment Management (Admissions, Records and Registration, and Financial Aid) were officially transferred to Academic Affairs. 1992 (July) Almeda Rogers Jacks appointed to be the third Vice President for Student Affairs. 1992 Athletics and Conference Services left Student Affairs. 1993 (July) The Union split into two departments: The University Union and Campus Events. In addition, parts of Student Development merged with the Union. 1995 Student Development dissolved, and Union gained the activities functions, judicial affairs moved to Housing, and the Office of Orientation, Leadership and Disabilities was formed. Campus Events merged with Union. 2006 (March) Gail A. DiSabatino appointed the fourth Vice President for Student Affairs upon the retirement of Almeda Rogers Jacks.

Accession 08-69 Dean of Students Files (Bowls, ACC, Hall of Fame): Ticket information was weeded out and two publications about Clemson Tigers at 1986 Gator Bowl and 1989 Citrus Bowl were filed in Series 164, Athletics.
Accession 11-46 Gala Files, 2005: Materials were not retained because the information (party preparation) was not historically relevant.
The files originated in the Division of Student Affairs.
