This series contains records of the Office of Undergraduate Studies. The series is composed of the following sub-series:
Sub-series I. contains administrative files of Jerome V. Reel, Jr., Senior Vice-Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Studies, and his predecessor, Claud B. Green, Dean of Undergraduate Studies. Major topics include admissions, assessment, curriculum, enrollment, faculty development, evaluation and workloads, grading, registration, scholarships, and self-studies. The files are arranged alphabetically by subject.
Sub-series II. contains documentation submitted to the south Carolina Commission on Higher Education regarding curriculum development, degree programs at the bachelor, master and doctoral levels and faculty data. The files are arranged alphabetically by name of degree program.
Sub-series III. contains the minutes of the Undergraduate Council, the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and the Commission on Undergraduate Studies. The minutes, which span the years 1979-1998, document additions and revisions to the curriculum. The files are arranged chronologically.
Subseries IV. contains planning materials related to the inaugurations and investitures of Clemson presidents Bill Atchley, Max Lennon, and Constantine Curris. The files are arranged chronologically.
Subseries V. contains files of the Director of Undergraduate Academic Services, George B. Carter, 1986-1997. The files are arranged alphabetically by subject.
Subseries VI. contains material that has been separated for purposes of preservation and access. The materials include publications removed from other sub-series, photographs, audio recordings, and oversize material.
There are no restrictions on the use of this collection except those folders marked "Restricted Access." These files have been segregated in a box at the end of this series.
The Office of Undergraduate Studies originated in 1972 when the duties of the Dean of Clemson University were divided/split into Undergraduate Studies and the Graduate School. The name changes and the respective deans are as follows:
The Office of Undergraduate Studies oversaw the recruitment and admission of students. It administered the offices of Academic Special Projects, Admissions, Cooperative Education, Calhoun Honors College, Financial Aid, Registration, Residency Classification, and Undergraduate Academic Services.

This series incorporates the following accessions: 88-107, 90-29, 94-103, 95-62, 95-106, 96-13, 96-134, 97-138, 98-12, 99-56, 00-16, 01-30, 01-98, 02-144, 03-45, 04-35, and 05-44.The accessions were received from the Office of Undergraduate Studies and the Office of Undergraduate Academic Services.
This collection was processed by Dennis Taylor, University Archivist, with the assistance of students Hope Brown, LaTonya Sims, Alyssa Mander, and Peter Wayne and completed February 2007. The finding aid was completed July 2008.
