Moses, Jr., candidate for Governor, 1872-1874; also Union Republican tickets, headed by Rutherford B. Hayes for President. Samuel J. Tilden was the Democratic candidate for President; the fake Union Republican ticket shows Tilden for President.
Voting tickets from 1872 and 1876. There is a fake Union Republic ticket for 1876 which lists the Democratic candidates. These tickets were often given to illiterate voters before voting in order to ensure they voted a straight ticket. The ticket is a hoax used to deceive the ignorant into voting for the opposing party.
