This collection consists of two unrelated items. The first is Mr. McCrary's written account, 1939, regarding of the early days of Clemson College. He recalls the Fort Hill mansion and surrounding area in the days before the college was first established. He describes witnessing the first dormitory being built by convict labor, Clemson's opening day ceremonies, and his own experiences as a cadet upon entering the school. The other item is a poem written by George Miles Riley that commemorates a 1921 class reunion that took place in 1975.
John Adger McCrary was in the Clemson graduating class of 1898, where he received a degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. After graduation, he was stationed at the Washington Navy Yard as Senior Mechanical Engineer. George Miles Riley was in the Clemson graduating class of 1921, where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, he worked as an Electrical Designer with the Public Service Electrical & Gas Company of New Jersey.
