The collection includes account books and accounts, advertisements (mostly for farm equipment), bills of sale (including those for slaves), a Confederate bond, a commission, the constitution of the Fair Forest Temperance Society (undated), correspondence, a "cotton book", a "cyphering book" (part of one of the account books), a deed, estate settlements, indentures, land grants, photographic negatives, receipts, weaving designs and other material.
Most of the items relate to the McJunkin and Saye families, in particular Reverend James Hodge Saye and Abram McJunkin. There is also a small amount of material relating to Major Joseph Caldwell McJunkin and the Savage and Thomas families as well.
Among the miscellaneous items in the collection are a March 27, 1790 memorandum between Alexander Moultrie and Colonel Thomas Washington regarding shares in the South Carolina Yazoo Company; an August 13, 1810 land grant to George Shep signed by Virginia governor John Tyler; a circa 1833 agreement between the trustees of the Pendleton Academy and Frederick Furber; 1850s weaving designs by Jane Caroline Watkins; and a photocopy of a February 23, 1880 letter from General Wade Hampton to Major Henry Hammond.
Reverend James Hodge Saye (January 29, 1808-November 20, 1892)was an educator and Presbyterian minister active in the vicinity of Chester and Union Counties, SC. Abram McJunkin (February 27, 1787-April 29, 1859) was a farmer and blacksmith in Union County married to Margaret Savage (July 10, 1789-June 23, 1845). His daughter Rebecca (May 11, 1918-April 6, 1904) married Reverend Saye in 1838. Major Joseph Caldwell McJunkin (1755-1846) was a farmer and Indian wars/Revolutionary War soldier who married Ann Jane Thomas (1757-1826) on March 9, 1779.
