This collection consists of two letters, original Confederate currency and facsimiles of Confederate currency. The letters relate to the donation of the original currency and one of the facsimiles. Original currency, which makes up the bulk of the collection and dates from 1861-1864, include the following denominations: fifty cents (18 items), one dollar (7 items), two dollars (6 items), five dollars (22 items), ten dollars (40 items), twenty dollars (22 items), fifty dollars (8 items), and one hundred dollars (1 item). The facsimiles are of a five dollar bill issued May 15, 1862, by the Cotton Planters Loan Association of the Fifth Congressional District of South Carolina; a one hundred dollar bill issued April 6, 1864, in Milledgeville, Georgia; a one dollar bill issued March 1, 1963, by the state of Florida.

The original Confederate currency was donated by the United States Treasury Department, Washington, DC, on August 7, 1912, accession 78-4. The fifteen cent bill was removed from Mss 90, the James F. Byrnes Papers. The facsimiles of the Georgia and South Carolina currency were removed from Mss 91, the Edgar Brown Papers, and accessioned as 78-5. Mrs. Flora Walker donated the fascimile of the Florida dollar bill on January 12, 1990, accession 90-7.
