Correspondence Between Mary Stevenson, Galleries and Museums
Scope and Contents
The collection contains books, correspondence, miscellaneous papers and photographs gathered by Mary Conrad Stevenson, former head of Cataloging in the Clemson University Library, who began her research in 1959 and again in 1974. Two copies of a book entitled, A History of the Calhoun Monument at Charleston, S.C., in which there are handwritten annotations, are also included in the collection. The correspondence includes letters of inquiry between Mrs. Stevenson and art galleries and museums pertaining to the location of artistic works of John C. Calhoun and requests for photographs of those works of art. The miscellaneous papers contain biographical information about the artists. There are black and white photographs of miniatures, portraits and statues depicting Calhoun included.
