Benet Papers

Introduction

Christie Benet was a lawyer and an outstanding leader who served his city, his state and nation. Among the many places he served was as a Life Trustee of Clemson College. He was elected in 1929, and in 1949 he became Chairman of the Board. Despite his long service these papers are limited primarily to the period 1946-1951.

Abstract The Central Dance Association (CDA) records are valuable for researching one of the major student organizations at Clemson from 1932 into the 1970s. Before 1955, during Clemson’s all-male military era, the CDA sponsored up to a dozen dance weekends per year for cadets and their dates. Introduction

This collection consists mainly of Gaston G. Gage's correspondence relating to Clemson College, the School of Textiles, and his various personal interests. It includes several essays presented at the Clemson Forum Club. Gage's correspondence documents his career as a professor and dean at Clemson University, as well as his involvment in community and church affairs. There is some material related to his wife, Ruth Vardell Gage (1899-1981).

Littlejohn Family Papers

Abstract

James Corcoran Littlejohn worked at Clemson College from the time he graduated in 1908 until his retirement in 1954. He was the college's first register beginning in 1910 and its first business manager beginning in 1926. The bulk of the papers are related to his career. His daughter Mary Katherine Littlejohn added some material related to her own life as well as posthumous material concerning her father.
